I've followed Toronto clothing designer
Philip Sparks for several years now and when he was in town last month he invited me to view his Fall 2011 collection. It certainly didn't disappoint and was consistent with Philip's "look". Last week while in Toronto I stopped by his studio on Queen West which serves as a manufacturing space during the week and on Saturdays is open to the public as a retail shop. I found it most interesting that Philip manufactures most of his collection in house. As clothing manufacturing companies have closed around Canada he's purchased quite a bit of the equipment, the older the better. His most recent purchase (one that he was most excited to show off) was his fur machine. It's great to see a relatively young company place such importance on manufacturing locally.
