Dandy Video: Mark Davids

Mark Davids, friend of Fine And Dandy, forwarded this video in which he is featured.  It's in Dutch but it's a great little dandy day-in-the-life of our friend (the first eight minutes). Thanks Mark!

Dandy Advertising: Bon-Ton-Ivy Hat Sweatbands

The Bon-Ton-Ivy was a patented hat sweatband from the beginning of the 20th century. Pretty good advertising, I'd say. Read more about it in this thread from the Fedora Lounge.

Formal Friday

Fridays have officially gone formal at FineAndDandyShop.com. In our opinion the world has gone too casual from a style perspective. This is our anti-casual Friday. So each week we ask you to get dressed up, encourage your co-workers to do the same, and send us a photo: info@FineAndDandyShop.com.

Haberdashery Finds: Chart Of Correct Dress For All Occasions

We loved this handy chart on the back page of a JW Losse Progressive Tailoring Company style book. A cap for motoring, grey suede gloves for informal evening occasions, patent leather shoes for formal evening occasions? But of course! Click image to enlarge.

Dandies Online: Style Sage

I read a lot of style blogs. In fact, my Google Reader is so overloaded that it often takes me several days to get through it. One that I always enjoy is Style Sage written by Christian Kimber, a gent living in Australia. In a recent post of particular interest, Christian hosted a “Sartorial Evening” for the gentlemen of Melbourne "to come down and learn a little about shoe care, how to polish their footwear and to develop an understanding of different types of leathers". Here are some photos of the smartly dressed guys at the event.

Dandy Shoes: Walk-Over

Last weekend I attended the Marlon Gobel Spring/Summer 2012 show and raved about it here. But even before the show began I saw several of the gents working on the show walking around wearing beautiful bucks. But they weren't just ordinary bucks, they had the most striking pop of color: the soles were neon (yellow, orange, green). Walk-Over was the footwear sponsor for the show and the shoes were worn by the models on the runway. I was vaguely familiar with the brand but wasn't aware of its history, having "a shoemaking heritage dating back to 1758". It's immediately evident that the brand embraces its history from its web site which features several archival company photos (below). And better yet, they manufacture in the USA.

On The Runway: Michael Bastian

On Monday we saw the Michael Bastian Spring/Summer 2012 show. Of particular note was the suiting and the use of pocket watches attached through belt loops. We often have customers ask for recommendations on how to use a pocket watch when not wearing a waistcoat.  Do you ever wear a pocket watch without a waistcoat, and if so, how do you wear it?
