Dandies Invade Governor's Island: The Jazz Age Lawn Party

This afternoon I took the ferry to Governor's Island for the Jazz Age Lawn Party. In addition to an amazing orchestra, dancing the Charleston, and a best pie contest, the single most important reason to leave Manhattan for the day: more dandys than I've ever seen in one place. It was totally of another world.

Michael Arnella and his Dreamland Orchestra.

The victrola operator ready to jump in when the orchestra takes a break.

LOVE the socks!

It all just works: the hat, the suspenders, the knickerbockers, the argyles.

This dapper gent looks on in the background as the pies are judged.

Dancing the Charleston.
