New School Dandy Profile: Theodore Tinson





Over the past several months we have been introduced to many amazing people through our Facebook fan page. With this post we continue a regular series of profiles of New School Dandies. This week we feature fashion designer Theodore Tinson.






Where did you grow up? Los Angeles, CA.

Where do you live now? Manhattan, New York City.

Where did you go to school? Syracuse University.

What’s your occupation? Fashion Designer.

When did you establish your personal style? Was there a pivotal moment? How has it changed? I've been choosing my outfits as long as I can remember. My mom once made me wear indigo skinnies, off-white/high-top chuck taylor converse, and an oversized knit to Kindergarten. I cried at the sandbox that day because I thought my outfit was AWFUL. Nearly 20 yrs later, that outfit is one of my go-to 'uniforms.'

How would you describe your style? Classic with a twist.

What are your sources of inspiration? L'Uomo Vogue, Vogue Paris, Numèro Homme, children's books, old films.

Who is your style icon? Carine Roitfeld.

What are your preferred dandy reading materials? Vanity Fair, Details/GQ, As A Gentleman....(series from Brooks Brothers), 19th/20th century biographies, Town and Country.

Do you have a favorite website? MSNBC, CNN, Style.com, The Daily, Facebook.

What is your favorite personal item (non-clothing/accessories)? Macbook pro, iPhone, hair clippers.

What is your favorite clothing article or accessory? Black Dior Homme stretch skinnies, Vintage tort framed 'circle' glasses, Bulgari B. Zero ring, Hermes leather bracelets, Antique black leather/gold money attachè.

Where is your favorite or dream vacation spot? Nice, Egypt, South Africa, Capri.

At which establishments would you consider yourself a regular? Waverly Inn, The Frick, Apple Store on 5th, Barneys.

What would you be doing ten years from now? Running an empire.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? Insecurity.

What is the trait you most deplore in others? Immaturity.

Who are your favorite writers? Baldwin, Giovanni, Wilde, Proust.

What is your most marked characteristic? Being a dreamer.
