Dandy Advertising: Montgomery Ward

Although you wouldn't know it by this unseasonably warm day (approaching 80 degrees in NYC) the temperature is growing colder and those who are still making the most of their summer gear really need to come to terms with the fact that Autumn is approaching full swing. Time to shift the mind set to tweeds, wools, and yes, flannels. I love the idea of a flannel shirt dressed up a bit like the guy in this 1925 Montgomery Ward catalog ad. Think a lighter weight flannel with a tie and a tweedy blazer. Now that's Fall!

Dandies On TV: Prohibition

This weekend I'm catching up with Ken Burns and Lynn Novick's three part documentary Prohibition for PBS. The timing couldn't be more perfect with the return of the second season of Boardwalk Empire. Not surprisingly, the documentary provides an enormous amount of dandy visual delight. Here are some favorite photos used in the series:
