The Old School Men's Shops Of London Part 2

A highlight of our trip to London was our afternoon with London dandy, Ray Frensham. We toured the menswear shops of Jermyn Street, St. James's Street, Savile Row, and the surrounding streets and arcades. Here is the second of a few posts highlighting some of our dandy tour.

Dr. Harris & Company Chemists And Perfumers:

The aroma that overtook us when we walked in was incredible.  We imagined it smelled that way for over 200 years.

The statue of the original dandy, Beau Brummell:

Bates Hatmakers, housed within Hilditch & Key Shirtmakers:

We understand that Bates lost its space because of new development so it opened in the back of Hilditch & Key.

A shoeshine stand in one of the arcades:

John Lobb Bootmaker:

If you look closely you can see a shoemaker in the reflection of the mirror.

Ahhh, spats.  The long-lost dandy accessory.  Unfortunately this was display only.

We loved these official seals.

Lock & Co. Hatmaker:

A hat for everyone!

The archival displays were incredible.

Every type of cap imaginable.

New & Lingwood Shirtmakers:

Since 1865, yet so contemporary.

While walking around Jermyn Street Wednesday we loved seeing the colors worn by the guys we saw.  And it became clear that spring is on it's way: no overcoats!

Our Dandy Birthday Afternoon

This afternoon we had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with dandy of all London dandies, Ray Frensham.  And it just happened to be his birthday.  We became friends with Ray online through our blogs, email, and facebook but today was our first get together in person.  Ray took us on a stroll through the shops of Jermyn Street and Savile Row. Thanks Ray and Happy Birthday!
