Dandies Online: Advanced Style

I'm officially obsessed with Advanced Style a photo blog of stylish seniors. The blog is self-described as "proof from the wizened and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age." I've always found inspiration from stylish older gentlemen. Here are some of my favorites from this blog:

Dandies In Print: The Wall Street Journal

In last Thursday's Wall Street Journal, Christina Binkley writes about New York City law firm Bickel & Brewer's particularly formal dress code and the overall trend in this economy of men dressing up at work. "As law-firm layoffs mount, fear of unemployment appears to be speeding up the resurgence of power clothes, even among the youngest recruits" according to Binkley. "Legal interns have begun flouting business-casual dress codes and wearing suits instead."

This isn't the first we've heard of this trend. As we wrote about last month, trend forecaster Jane Buckingham predicted on CNN that men would be stepping up their game in the style department. That suits us just fine!

Dandies Online: Chictopia

I've written previously about the fashion social networking site Lookbook.nu. A similar site in which I check out frequently is Chictopia.com. Chictopia also consists of members posting images of themselves and other members commenting on their style. Here are a few new school dandy photos.

Dandies In Print: Jocks And Nerds

At a recent visit to J. Crew in the Flatiron District, I noticed their collection of out-of-print books, all of which somehow related to men's style. I made a mental note of a few and immediately searched eBay for some more affordable alternatives. One of those books was Jocks And Nerds: Men's Style In The Twentieth Century by Richard Martin and Harold Koda. The 1989 coffee table pictorial book identifies twelve "male identities" including the jock, the nerd, and of course, the dandy. I'm not sure about the jock, but if only I knew in 1989 how cool it was to be a nerd...

Dandy Endorsement: The Brooklyn Circus

Several weeks ago while visiting a friend in Brooklyn I stopped by the men's boutique The Brooklyn Circus. With their own emerging clothing line these gents are the ultimate Brooklyn dandy.
