New School Dandy Profile: Michael Andrew
Since the shop launched two years ago we have been introduced to hundreds of stylish guys who embrace their "inner-dandy". With this post we continue a regular series of profiles of New School Dandies. Up next, Michael Andrew, with photos by Rose Callahan.
Where did you grow up? I grew up in Austin, TX.
Where do you live now? HarlemWorld USA.
Where did you go to school? I enjoyed quite a few universities during my matriculation.
When did you establish your personal style? Was there a pivotal moment? How has it changed? My self and my style are forever evolving and reflect my position in life.
How would you describe your style? A Retreat to 1920’s Harlem.
What are your sources of inspiration? People and my surroundings.
Who is your style icon? There are actually a few: my mentor Leonard Gresham, Lino Ieluzzi of Al Baazar, Jay Kos.
What are your preferred dandy reading materials? Dressing The Man by Alan Flusser. Letters To A Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke (forever inspiring me to find and embrace myself). The Art Of Seduction (because style is more than just clothing).
Do you have a favorite website? Why Fine and Dandy of course! I also enjoy Men’s Flair, Street Etiquette, Made to Measure NY.
What is your favorite personal item (non-clothing/accessories)? My iPhone and my notebook.
What is your favorite clothing article or accessory? My white double breasted gabardine blazer.
Where is your favorite or dream vacation spot? Lake Como, Italy and Provence, France.
Tell us the best kept secret in your city. If I told you it wouldn’t be a secret anymore.
At which establishments would you consider yourself a regular? I’m still enjoying exploring the city (New York) therefore I don’t have a regular place as of yet.
What would you be doing ten years from now? In ten years I will be traveling, and enjoying the fullness of life.
What is your current obsession? NYC nightlife; it’s so eclectic so vibrant I can’t get enough of it.
Currently inspired by? The people I come in contact with daily and love.
Currently annoyed with? Labels and people trying to put others in a box.
What else do you want to tell us? If clothing truly is a reflection of a man’s state of mind don’t ever be afraid to be and express yourself. And love always begets love so spread it!
