One-Of-A-Kind: Label New York

I've recently become acquainted with Label New York, a t-shirt label specializing in mystical themes, drawing inspiration from alchemy, astrology, palmistry, and Kabbalah. I've visited designer Jeffrey Goldstein's studio which is actually his 5th floor walk-up apartment in New York City's Hell's Kitchen. Each t-shirt is one-of-a-kind, silk screened by Goldstein himself and sold in men's boutique's throughout the US and on Goldstein's web site. Maybe not entirely dandy, but I love the unique look of his creations.

Dandies On TV: Real World Brooklyn

On a recent episode of MTV's Real World Brooklyn, Chet was compared to Orville Redenbacher. Here he is while interviewing Pete Wentz. I must say I can see the Orville Redenbacher resemblance. Rather dandy, no?

Dandy Goods: ShirtsMyWay.com

I've posted previously about A Tailored Suit, an online tailor for custom men's suits and dress shirts. I've just discovered ShirtsMyWay.com, similar in concept, but specializing in dress shirts only. ShirtsMyWay.com is offering an introductory offer with prices starting at just $59, with free international delivery. Again, I'm intrigued by the concept!

Vintage Dandy

I've always wanted a boater hat but I'm not sure if I can pull it off. Do you think it would be too costumey?

Dandies In Print: The New York Post

The Last Of The Great American Dandy in today's New York Post profiles NYC dandies Patrick McDonald, David Hart, and Cator Sparks. As I commented on the article online, it's a great post but I disagree with the title. The dandy is making a comeback in men's style, evident from the resurgence of the bow tie, the Mad Men skinny tie, tie bars, pockets squares. And mostly from young men. The three dandies profiled are an inspiration to me and other new school dandies, but they are far from a dying breed.

Dandies In Print: Cary Grant, A Celebration Of Style

Working through my never ending pile of yet-to-read books, tonight I flipped through Richard Torregrossa's Cary Grant, A Celebration Of Style. Torregrossa's 2006 coffee table book focuses on the iconic style of the movie star. The fantastic collection of photos reinforces my image of Grant as the ultimate dapper matinee idol. A dandy must read.

Dandies On The Runway: Michael Bastian

It's Fashion Week here in NYC and, as always, Men.Style.com is providing fantastic runway coverage. Most notably dandy is designer Michael Bastian's fall/winter collection. It's New School Dandy at its finest.

The bow ties, slim ties, and pocket squares mixed with the jeans, blue plaid jacket, and denim vest. Amazing. I'm not sure about the pants tucked into combat boots though. What do you think?

Dandies Online: Get Tweed. Wear Tweed. Drive.

I'm late in writing about this but I had to share it. The Rickshaw Run is a 3000 mile rickshaw race through Subcontinent India's most "questionable terrain", benefiting various charities. Team "Get Tweed. Wear Tweed. Drive." participated in the race last month dressed up in their finest old-school dandy garb while raising money for two organizations serving India's under-privileged. Hysterical and yet quite admirable. Take a look.

Dandies Online: Advanced Style

I'm officially obsessed with Advanced Style a photo blog of stylish seniors. The blog is self-described as "proof from the wizened and silver-haired set that personal style advances with age." I've always found inspiration from stylish older gentlemen. Here are some of my favorites from this blog:

Dandies In Print: The Wall Street Journal

In last Thursday's Wall Street Journal, Christina Binkley writes about New York City law firm Bickel & Brewer's particularly formal dress code and the overall trend in this economy of men dressing up at work. "As law-firm layoffs mount, fear of unemployment appears to be speeding up the resurgence of power clothes, even among the youngest recruits" according to Binkley. "Legal interns have begun flouting business-casual dress codes and wearing suits instead."

This isn't the first we've heard of this trend. As we wrote about last month, trend forecaster Jane Buckingham predicted on CNN that men would be stepping up their game in the style department. That suits us just fine!

Thanks to Off The Cuff for the tip.

I've written previously about the fashion social networking site Lookbook.nu. A similar site in which I check out frequently is Chictopia.com. Chictopia also consists of members posting images of themselves and other members commenting on their style. Here are a few new school dandy photos.

Dandies In Print: Jocks And Nerds

At a recent visit to J. Crew in the Flatiron District, I noticed their collection of out-of-print books, all of which somehow related to men's style. I made a mental note of a few and immediately searched eBay for some more affordable alternatives. One of those books was Jocks And Nerds: Men's Style In The Twentieth Century by Richard Martin and Harold Koda. The 1989 coffee table pictorial book identifies twelve "male identities" including the jock, the nerd, and of course, the dandy. I'm not sure about the jock, but if only I knew in 1989 how cool it was to be a nerd...

Dandy Endorsement: The Brooklyn Circus

Several weeks ago while visiting a friend in Brooklyn I stopped by the men's boutique The Brooklyn Circus. With their own emerging clothing line these gents are the ultimate Brooklyn dandy. From hoodies to kerchiefs to denim jackets, their stuff is the perfect mix of old and new. And their lifestyle blog is not to be missed. Here are a few of my favorite blog photos.
