We found this great bag at the Hell's Kitchen flea market - think it's called a Gladstone Bag. We particularly loved the gold lettering. Who does that anymore? Where can you get that done today? Similarly we love monograming, engraving, etc. It's the idea that you're investing in an item that you will keep forever and making the expense of personalizing it.

Great classic bag.
That is most certainly not a Gladstone bag. It's a standard American briefcase of the 1950s, used by college professors and high school teachers.
Yes, some commenters on our facebook page established that it is a traditional leather valise or top-frame briefcase (http://www.facebook.com/FineAndDandyShop). In this case it seems to have been owned by a member of the auto workers union.
Contracts within that would eventually lead to it's own destruction...
Not a Gladstone bag... but nice nonetheless.

As several have said. Not a Gladstone bag but the sort of briefcase I used to carry in the early sixties. The Gladstone bag is what you always see early 20th century doctors carrying in all those movies. Named after the four times British prime minister William Ewart of course.
