Croatia would have been part of the Hapsburg Monarchy when this photo was taken......the destruction of the Hapsburg Monarchy (much abetted by the US alas) was a disaster for central Europe.....they also had the best looking army uniforms pre-1914........there are a lot of photos around of street scenes and cafes in Vienna, Prague and Budapest before WW 1 and the general look is great.
