Hurricane Day Activities For Dandies

In anticipation of Hurricane Sandy I'm rerunning the list I put together last summer for Irene.

1) Learn and perfect tying a new necktie knot (or learn to tie a bow for the first time).

2) Iron your cotton and linen pocket squares; steam your silks.

3) Shine your shoes.

4) Catch up on your favorite style blogs.

5) Clean out your closet. Reorganize and purge.

6) Sew on missing buttons/other various clothes mending.

7) Polish your tie bars, collar pins, cufflinks, and other metal jewelry.

 

8) Go through your closet and make a pile for your tailor of clothing that needs alterations.

9) Arrange your neckwear by material/color.

10) Online shopping of course!

Dandies In Print: GQ

I always enjoy the Project Upgrade feature in GQ in which they pick guys off the street and give them an instant style makeover. It seems like the common theme is trashing their over-sized clothing and focusing on fit (although I bet a few of you would argue they go too far in the other direction). In the magazine's November issue they focus on Capitol Hill.  What do you think? Did they succeed?

The Wall Street Journal ponders the possible resurgence of pleated trousers. Our opinion is that pleats have a bad name because of the over-sized, ill-fitting pants they've been associated with (as pictured) and when done right they can look great.
